About renewable energy
Renewable energy is the term used to describe energy flows that occur naturally and continuously in the environment, such as energy from the wind, waves or tides (DBERR). There are many varied technologies used to produce renewable energy, virtually all deriving their energy from the sun or the gravitational effects of the sun and the moon.
The key technologies are introduced below including information on their application in South West England, and issues relating to their development. Regen SW has also produced a series of fact sheets on renewable energy technologies which can be downloaded from this section.
