Tough decisions must be made on wind applications
Commenting on the Davidstowe wind farm application, which has been deferred to the strategic planning authority, Merlin Hyman, Regen SW chief executive, said: "Since its approval of the first UK windfarm in 1989, Cornwall has been at the forefront of renewable energy. If it is to lead the way in the future in developing sustainable energy sources that don't rely on imported oil and gas from unstable regions of world, it will need to make the most of all its natural resources - including wind.
This shift to renewable energy will undoubtedly present tough decisions. But there are few opportunities for schemes of the scale of this proposal that would generate electricity for around 30,000 homes and I'd urge all councils to take on board the vital importance of moving to secure and sustainable energy and take a positive approach to applications such as this."
