Regional strategies and action plans
Renewable energy strategy
Regen SW has responsibility for delivering the Regional Renewable Energy Strategy, which was published in April 2003.
The overall vision of the strategy is to:
"Maximise the social, environmental and economic benefits of renewable energy through the integration of renewable energy into mainstream policy and practice at all levels within the region."
The strategy then identifies three areas where a regional focus is required:
- Deploying renewable energy on the ground
- Developing skills and awareness
- Building the South West renewable energy industry
The strategy has the support of the South West of England Regional Development Agency, Government Office for the South West, South West Regional Assembly, the Environment Agency and Sustainability South West.
Perhaps the greatest success of the strategy has been the work of the Government Office and the Regional Assembly to get agreement on county level renewable electricity targets. This process generated huge interest from local authorities and support from local champions of renewable energy and led to the development of renewable or sustainable energy strategies in every one of the seven counties of the south west.
Low-carbon housing and fuel-poverty strategy action plan
- Funded by the Government Office for the South West and overseen by a regional steering group
- Fill gaps and identify opportunities
- Domestic sector focus
- Low-carbon housing
- Zero-carbon development
- Fuel poverty
Climate change action plan
The South West Regional Assembly and partners are in the process of developing a south west climate change action plan, which aims to set clear direction on mitigation and adaption priorities for the region. For more information, email: climatechange@southwest-ra.gov.uk
